tunesday take 5? 6? who’s counting?

Hello hello hello welcome back  to Tunesday happy Tuesday if you’re new to Tunesday here are some links  that’ll help you  understand okay on with the show!!!

imagine dragons – believer

second, don’t you tell me what you think that i can be
i’m the one at the sail, i’m the master of my sea

Believer was released earlier this year as the lead single off  Evolve (coming soonish?). Admittedly, I didn’t have this song on this list until about an hour ago after I watched the Riverdale season finale. The song is used excellently (though the finale was definitely weaker than the penultimate episode) and there’s something about the grittiness of it that’s getting me through a lot at the moment. Lotta pain here, y’all. Lotta believing.

4 non blondes – what’s up

trying to get that great big hill of hope / for a destination

I’ve been watching a lot of TV series recently, and I just started (read: have almost finished) Sense8. It is incredible. In the fourth episode, aptly titled What’s Going On, something has some people all having or hearing the same song – namely What’s Up by 4 NOn Blondes. I was listening to this in the store today, and I felt better than I have over the past couple of days. Honestly, what’s going on? Does anyone actually know? (Hint: no. Nobody knows. What’s going on?)

hayley kiyoko

 ease my mind

i need you to be here / i need to see you crystal clear

palace

dance in your colour, reflecting in your light
you’re my horizon, you’ll always paint my sky

To be frank, the last week and a bit has really been the week of Hayley Kiyoko. I’m a lil bit of a massive stan, and I couldn’t decide which of the songs that I’ve had on repeat to add to this list. Naturally, I’ve chosen the excessive path and left you two of my favourites from this week. Citrine is her best work and is available all places music is available!

Such has been Tunesday! I’m probably going to eat a heck ton of mac & cheese and then watch Sense8 and scream. Life has just been…a lot.

monthly me | januARI ’17

deep breath. big sip of water. hope, dismay, repeat.

this is january.

january

january has just been a lot. i don’t know how else to explain it. this month i lost a job i never had (but 100% had in my mind), found out that i am fat (and had it consistently reaffirmed by people who think my body is their business), ran so many errands for my mom (because i’m not in school and i don’t have a job and i am essentially a bum) and wrote. i wrote some pretty good pieces this month. i’m proud of them. the trump presidency is…a disgrace and disaster of biblical proportions.

Capture.JPG

i don’t know what we can do to fix it. i mean, i guess i have to become president. boop. but for real, it’s been a mess and i’ve been cutting ties like i do fresh bread because i’m not here for nazi sympathisers. watch your wrist if you punch one, friends.

i had no sleep and was thinking too much. so i got a breakfast bowl.

on repeat

talk with your fingertips
don’t stop the car, let’s drive

suck on your amber lips
just give me one bad night

i think of this song in the context of my friend, dani, and also how i’m tom incarnate.

friends, sometimes when you’re on, you’re really fucking on. (i’m gonna write a whole post on this song because it’s fits too well.)

obsessions

ARI FITZ.

man. don’t even let me start. this month has been januARI.

21b6d6a7bfd1b17abc5583e0a5af16f5.jpg

ari fitz invented jawlines, facial expressions, cheekbones, tomboyish style, and tiny geometric tattoos. facts only. i’m enamoured with her style, her boldness, her carefree black girl realness & her die hard attitude. ari is intelligent and talented beyond measure, inspiring in a way i didn’t think i could think someone could be, and extremely gorgeous. y’all. my knees are the weakest.

images-3images-1images-2

she makes videos every single day, and is the curator of the tomboy-style instagram & channel, the tomboyish (@the.tomboyish). ari is a big voice on androgyny in style & accepting and channeling one’s masculinity and femininity together. (did you know that androgyne is literally greek for male-female? andro – male; gyne – female. lit.) 11/10 would recommend. y’all seeing that? eleven out of ten.

other obsessions include

  • the never ending job hunt
  • the college apps check (login, sigh, logout, repeat)
  • crackerbread
  • tea in the morning

snippets of internal monologue

  • SHALOM. you can’t just run a 5k. you can’t just do things like that! do you understand?
  • are you ever going to edit that portugal vlog? (i did. it’s here.)
  • where in the HELL am i going to university LORD

today someone told me to keep writing. i had my freelance pitches rejected SO HARD, so i really needed to hear that. keep doing what keeps you up. it’s 5:21 AM here. here’s to february and resistance and progress. please, lord. progress.

love & light,

TUNESday

It’s another Tuesday, it’s another Tunesday!

(Shalom, what’s Tunesday?)

Well, here’s the first installment. It’s different to Hannah Hart’s Tunesday, which you totally should check out here, because instead of answering questions, I give music recs. I’d make this a feature, but we’ve all seen how Shalom and scheduled posts operate.

HERE WE GO

1. Message Man by Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots is The Band. You know how everyone has that one band or artist that they are absolutely mental about? That’s them. Yes. You see, I’m one of those “saved by the music” fans, and since they entered my life in 2012, I have not been able to shake them. Resonably so, seeing that the music, and the members, are Uh. Maze. Ing. Twenty One Pilots is Tyler Joseph (vocals/piano/ukelele/bass) and Josh Dun (drums/trumpet). Message Man is the 11th track off their latest offering, Blurryface. In four words? This may change you. Arguably one of my favourite songs off the album, Message Man deals with more than how we live in the world, but also the importance of being alert and awake while being alive. I’m doing a poor job. Just, just listen to it.

2. Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko

This song is just wow. I’m doing very badly at adjectives today, can you tell? My friend Engie wrote this here post and introduced me to this song. Two things about this: (1) Hayley Kiyoko has insane talent musically, and also in terms of directing. (2) Girl steals girl? Yes! Yes! This song was so refreshing and so, so needed, because I swear, if Mr Steal Yo Girl goes ahead and STEALS YO GIRL while Ms. Steal Yo Girl is just as (if not more?) capable of doing so people should know. Fave lines: “Always gonna steal your thunder, watch me like a dark cloud /on the move collecting numbers, Imma take your girl out.”

Watch. Listen. DO IT.

3. Hallelujah by Panic! At The Disco

ALL YOU SINNERS, LISTEN UP. Okay, so maybe this post did turn into an alternative music flurry of stuff, but this song is important. Even if you’ve never heard of P!ATD, Brendon Urie’s vocal range should do it for you. This video will not make sense to you immediately – the band has a habit of doing that. Anyway, Hallelujah is about, I don’t know, whatever you want it to be. It’s all about “A moment you’ll never remember and a night you’ll never forget.” Do yourself a favour, because “the time for being sad is over” and it is TIME to watch 80% confused and 20% dancing Brendon Urie.

Thus concludes Tunesday! These have been my faves for the last week or two and I like documenting these things. There we go.

PROM IS ON SATURDAY!?!
